New Zealand Winegrowers will host its 22nd tasting of New Zealand wines in Ireland in January 2019. With a number of key New Zealand wineries showing at the Dublin show in 2019 there will be over 150 New Zealand wines available to taste. In addition to the main tasting, there will be a masterclass starting 1pm (more details to follow)
New Zealand wines have a great following here in Ireland. In 2017 New Zealand sold 543,621 cases of wines on the Irish market, rising to 6% of the total market of 9.1 million cases. Figures for the retail wine sector in Ireland on a MAT basis, for the period March 2017-2018, show that the market for wine in the off trade grew. According to Scantrack the MAT volume figure for 9 litre case sales to March 2018 were 5,689,969 up from 5,416,383 in March 2017 an increase of +5.16%. Countries showing strongest growth during the period March 2017 to March 2018, include New Zealand.
MAT figures to March 2018 from Nielsen Scantrack show that off trade sales of New Zealand wine increases by +6.88% in terms of value and by +5.36% in terms of volume sales. The trade and press tasting on Monday 14th January, 2019 will run from 2.00 – 6.00 p.m. with the consumer tasting following at the same venue from at 6.30 – 8.30 p.m.
